AVS AeroSkin II Bug Shield and Hood Protector
A Custom Molded TPO Hood Guard that Fits the Contours of your Vehicle
The AeroSkin 2 from Auto VentShade (AVS) is designed to prevent damage to your hood and windshield and look good while doing it. This bug deflector is made in the USA and features an extrusion, the little bump at the top middle, which is designed to help push or direct rocks, debris, and bugs away from your hood and your windshield, up over the top of your truck. This new feature for the AeroSkin update, improves on the original design while keeping the low profile that everyone loved from the first AeroSkin.

AVS AeroSkin II Bug Shield and Hood Protector
We’ve all seen ‘em: those massive hood guards that stick out three or four inches in front of and above your hood. They aren’t exactly stylish, but I suppose they do what they claim they do. They protect your hood from bugs and rocks and the like.
But the thing is they are typically made of ABS or acrylic, and they rarely look that good once they are installed on your vehicle.
Now I don’t know about you, but when I’m looking to install a bug shield, I want something that is easy to install on my truck, requires no drilling at all, and something that looks good too.
And that’s been pretty hard to come by in my opinion for some time now. It seems like you either get a hugged hood guard that sticks out way too far or something that is so tight on the hood that it is basically just decorative.
Even the AeroSkin original kinda fell into one of these two categories. It looked great, but it hugged the hood so tightly and was almost too low profile. You just felt like it didn’t deflect enough, even though it looked great.
But now AVS has updated their design, and the AeroSkin 2 is here to stay.
This upgrade has improved upon the original design while still keeping the stylish finish and low profile elements. In other words, the AeroSkin II still looks great, she just does even more than her older sister ever did, if you catch my drift.
And the big secret weapon is that extrusion.
The extrusion, which is really just a fancy way of saying “bump,” adds a little bit of elevation to the back portion of the hood guard.
This bump, made of high impact resistant thermoplastic, is designed to deflect both air currents and rocks up and over the top of your cab and away from your vehicle.
And it does all of that and more with style too.
Where the original AeroSkin was impact resistant and bumped or ricocheted bugs away from your hood, the 2nd version does the same, only now due to the added extrusion, it directs bug guts and bouncing rocks even further up into the air, helping to ensure the less mess gets on your windshield and your paint job remains flawless for years to come.
This added bump doesn’t stick out so far though that it alters the profile of your truck in such an extreme way like more traditional hood guards do. Just see the images above and you’ll be able to tell that this bug shield is custom designed to fit your hood exactly.
In other words, it looks like it belongs there.
I can’t think of any other style of hood shield that looks like it might be OEM. There are other styles I like. Don’t get me wrong. But if you’re trying to match your OEM trim and keep the front of your truck from looking out of the ordinary, then you need to go with AVS and AeroSkin 1 or 2.
This new design is even better than the original at protecting your vehicle’s paint and hood and windshield.
And again, it does it all with style. The textured matte black finish on the AeroSkin 2 really fits the rest of your accessories. When it comes to matching black trim, Lund is on top of it along with AVS. These US based companies have been making great aftermarket parts for years and will continue to support them for years to come with their excellent customer service, support, and warranty.
When it comes to form meets function, AVS is on top of the game. And this really shows when you look at great products like the AeroSkin and AeroSkin II.
Rock Vs. Windshield
Now these days there’s all sorts of easy technological fixes and such, but back in the day it was always a pain in the butt when your windshield got damaged. I think it is always a pain, but I digress.
This happens so often that every story likely sounds the same. You’re cruising down the highway or some state road, and you end up behind a semi or a big truck or just some soccer mom in her SUV. No matter what vehicle you’re chasing, or what road you’re on, this scenario plays out all the time.
You’re just driving along, minding your own business, and you probably can’t even see it happening, but you hear something. Maybe a little ting sound or a thud, depending on where it hits first.
And suddenly you look up at your windshield, and if you’re like me, you let out a little curse, probably at the top of your lungs, because a rock just got flung back at you cause that soccer mom in front you has no damn mud flaps on her SUV!
Just playin’ with the soccer mom thing. It’s probably a semi, right? Or, the worst case scenario, and I’ve seen this: it’s a big old dump truck and he’s hauling rock for someone’s driveway, but there’s no top on the truck bed / dumper, so you get hit by repeated rocks every time he hits a bump or pothole. Yeah, that actually happened to me out on route 48 one day a few years back.
Regardless of how it happens, it happens all the time. These little rocks get flung up at your truck and hit off your hood and up into your windshield. It’s a big target. Makes sense that this happens so often. But damn it, I don’t want to call Truck Glass Minus or whatever to have them come out and fill these cracks every month. I just want my windshield intact, thank you.
Well, if that’s the case, then you really need a hood guard. Hood protectors, like the AVS Aeroskin 2, help keep rocks from hitting your windshield in the first place.
The TPO material of the guard is designed to be resilient yet springy so it will redirect any rocks or bugs up and over the cab of your truck. The vast majority of rocks and insects hit the front of your hood before either splattering guts all over it or richotting up into the windshield.
And when you’re going 60 to 70 miles per hour, it doesn’t take a lot of mass to scratch your paint job or crack your windshield.
Again, I know how easy it is to fix these cracks in your windshield, but it still costs you time and a little bit of money. Installing a bug guard like the AVS AeroSkin 2 can help prevent these kinds of damages from ever occurring in the first place.
The added bonus of great style only helps to add to the value of the AeroSkin. Whether you go with the O.G. or the new and improved version 2, the AVS AeroSkin is designed to protect your paint job and keep your truck looking great. And the warranty from AVS and Lund helps with peace of mind too. These babies are made right here in the United States and they are built to last.
