Protecting your Hood just got more Stylish
I still remember the day I got my new Chevy. I couldn’t wait to get behind the wheel and take her for a spin, but after a long day at the dealership dealing with nonsense, we had to have some much needed refreshment and some food to boot.
After a bite and a couple brews, we hit the road to head on home. It was a cool, crisp summer night--one of those nights when you just gotta have the windows down and the tunes cranked. And I loved my truck right from the beginning. I loved the way she handled, how high up I was sitting. It was even nice to have my wife with me. I mean especially nice, especially nice, honey, if you’re reading this.
And I remember how shiny and red my truck looked on the lot when I bought it. And I remember the night air flowing up over the hood of my truck, over the windshield, through my fingertips out the window. But what I didn’t really recall until later was that high pitched buzzing in the background when we went flying past a streetlight out in the middle of nowhere.
But I saw the repercussions in the morning, when I went out to take my truck for a spin again. The front of my hood, where the grille hits the hood, was coated in dead bug parts and guts. It looked like a bug massacre, like some crazy bug hitman had come to town and left the remnants of his work smeared across my hood like a calling card.
Yes, bugs, my friends. Bugs.
And when I was scrubbing the guts and bug parts off, my buddy pulled in next to me--he in his F-150, me in my new Chevy Silverado. After the usual ribbing between Ford and Chevy drivers had concluded, he saw what I was up to and dropped some much appreciated knowledge on me.
First, he told me something I didn’t know about bug guts. They can take your paint right off. Turns out most bug guts are acidic. Yeah, who knew?!
Those acid insect carcuses eat right into your clear coat and down to your paint job. And if you don’t do exactly what I was doing right then--cleaning that crap off immediately--then over time as the bugs decompose, it only gets worse until you paint is really damaged.
So I turned to my buddy, sort of flabbergasted. I mean, how often am I going to hit bugs especially at night like that? Probably every night, all summer long!
He just laughed at me, said something about me being an ignorant Chevy driver, and then pointed to the front of his Ford F-150.
And you know what he had there? I’d almost missed it cause it blended right in with the rest of his trim. I mean, this hood protector looked like it belonged there, stock, from the moment he drove that truck off the lot. And, I can’t lie, it really improved the crappy look of his Ford. Just playing, Matty. Just messin’.
He had an AVS Aeroskin installed on his pickup, and it really did look great there. He explained to me that not only did it look stylin’, his hood guard also protected his paint job against these toxic insect guts. Since the vast majority of bugs hit right there, at the front of your hood, the AVS Aeroskin acts as a shield against this kind of damage.
Now going into this situation, I always thought that the best bug and rock deflectors were those huge ones that jump out from your hood and sometimes those aren’t the most pleasing to the eye, nor do they look or fit your vehicle’s shape. They aren’t aerodynamic in any way. Little did I know that was an old school design. The more modern take on hood shields involves AVS AeroSkin style--a deflector that adheres to the curve of your hood. And since this part is made from durable ABS acrylic, it can take a hit from a rock and bounce the thing right over the top of your vehicle’s cab. Likewise, ABS isn’t going to get damaged from bug guts like your paint job will. So while I still try to keep my AVS Aeroskin cleaned up on the reg, I don’t worry as much about my hood’s paint job now that I have it installed.
Just think. Without my Ford driving, crazy AF friend, I may never have learned about this great product that would help protect my vehicle over time. And I have to say, the AVS Aeroskin looks pretty sick too. I got mine in matte black because it matches the trim of my vehicle, but they do come in chrome and smoke too. The smoke is a semi-transparent look too that I considered heavily before buying. And the chrome would match any aftermarket chrome or stainless steel parts nicely too.
And if you’re looking for something with a little more bump or raised section that is still pretty aerodynamic, you should check out the AVS Aeroskin II or 2. It has a similar style but is made out of TPO and has an added raised bump designed to kick rocks and debris even higher into the air to prevent it from hitting your windshield. I’m pretty pleased with the original Aeroskin, myself, but the second edition, if you will, does a great job of protecting your hood and windshield as well.
So if you’re looking for a great hood protector from Georgia--that’s right--made in the US, right here by American workers--then you need look no further. This stylish hood guard will help your truck stand out in a crowd all while providing great added protection against bugs, rocks, and anything else you might run into on a cool summer night when flying down the backroads.
AVS has been protecting vehicles since 1935. These folks know how to make a bug guard and make it look good. Let us get you your very own AVS Aeroskin today to help keep your paint job pristine and your hood undented by rocks. There’s nothing worse than seeing your brand spanking new truck scuffed up and dirtied by road debris and insects. And yet, it happens all too often. The first step is to be proactive. And when you go to order, make sure you tell them that Matty said that the only way to make his F-150 look nearly as good as my Chevy was with an AVS Aeroskin installed on it. Yeah, that’ll give him a laugh, ya’ll.
Until then, keep your hood clean of bug guts and enjoy the night driving. I’m off to install a new Aeroskin on my wife’s SUV.
