Husky WeatherBeater Floor LIners
Designed to handle whatever you throw at it and then some
There’s nothing worse than stained and sticky and dirt encrusted carpet, especially if it ends up in your truck floorboards. And the factory installed floor mats don’t tend to do much. Let’s count the ways the factory mats fail:
- They are often made of stainable carpet themselves.
- They absorb water and get caked with dirt and grime.
- With no lip or guard, mud and spills just roll right off, onto your upholstery.
- Lots of OE mats don’t stay in place
- Most carpeted mats don’t cover your entire floorboard area
In fact, just based upon materials alone, you’d be hard pressed to find a worse material to make a mat out of than carpet. Since the material soaks up moisture, anything that you spill on a carpeted mat is very likely to stain it or at the very least leave it sticky and wet.
Furthermore, what’s the purpose of using the same or similar material, i.e. carpet, to lay over the top of carpet that you’re trying to protect? Mud, gum, fruit snacks, and even half eaten french fries will all get ground into that carpet. And then you can try to clean it just like you would your upholstery. Great.
Finally, why have a mat in the first place that doesn’t cover the whole floorboard area? Which brings us to this common questions:
What’s the difference between a floor mat and a floor liner?
A floor mat is the stock mat that sits in the floorboard of your vehicle. It is typically made of carpet and only covers a portion of the floor. A floor liner is an aftermarket product that is designed to cover the entirety of the floorboard of your vehicle and fit the contours and ridges exactly. A good floor liner, like Husky Liners WeatherBeaters, is weatherproof and waterproof and designed to prevent your interior carpet from getting damaged by mud, spills, snow, and dirt.
Husky Liners WeatherBeaters are a major step up from stock floor mats for all of these reasons. And if you’re looking for a well priced floor liner that is laser measured to fit your specific make and model vehicle, then Husky is where it’s at.
Using lasers and computerized software, the engineers over at Husky Liners created a custom fitting floor liner for most makes and models of vehicle.
And before you think some knock off would handle it just fine, consider that one of the hardest areas of your vehicle to detail are the little corners and crevices between plastic molded floor and carpet. All kinds of things you don’t want to even think about get shoved down into this corners, and dirt and mud and sticky spills all get lodged and before you know it, you might have a very clean and tidy middle part of your floor board.
But you’ll have a ring around the edge of all the disgusting stuff that falls off of or in between that knock off liner or mat and onto your carpeted interior.
I used to think that floor liners weren’t the sexiest of upgrades to your vehicle or that I could keep my vehicle pretty clean by just being careful in it. But in hindsight, I was wrong.
Now that I’m a family man, I know better. But even thinking back to my single days, I ponder how much nicer my vehicles would have been if I’d had a set of Husky Liners installed.
Floor Liners for the Single Man
The family man already knows this. You’ve gotta have floor liners. You’ve got kids, a spouse, and when you have to hit the road and get some work done, well, you don’t want to be worrying about muddying up your floors.
But as usual, I wish I knew the things I know now when I was a younger man. I can remember talking girls out for the first or second date, and I’m sure you can too. Those times when you’d clean the holy hell outta your crummy apartment on the hope--the shoot the moon, 1 in a million chance--she’d ask to go back to your place after and watch a movie or something. You know--
Netflix and chill.
And I’ve learned now that cleaning that bathroom of vacuuming the carpet once a month when I was hopeful of hanging with some gal, well, it was quite a bit more work than if I’d just kept up on it on the regular.
I know that now. But I’m older, and I see that my kids will make mess after mess, and if I don’t keep up on it, before you know it the house and yard and my truck--pretty much everything--is a wreck.
But back in the day, I didn’t think about it until the last minute. And the other thing I’d have to clean up--yup, you guessed it--was my truck.
If I was about to go pick up my girl for a night on the town, you better bet I was vacuuming out the truck and making sure she was clean as a whistle. And you know what the worst part always was?
The carpeted floorboards.
Now matter how hard I tried, it always seemed like I never could quite get all the dirt and mud and fast food crumbs outta that carpet. And I knew it showed up too. Sometimes I’d do this sweet move, where I’d try to move the carpeted floor mats ever so slightly one side of the other to cover up the unsightly ring of grime that encircled them. But I ended up having to pick a side, basically. If I moved it towards the passenger side door for instance, then from the driver’s side view you could totally see that ring of disgusting. But maybe she wouldn’t see it when she was getting in on the passenger’s side.
And of course, those damns mats would move around a bit anyway, so I’d just hope she didn’t hit one just wrong with her heels and notice just how dirty it all really was.
Again, that’s the thing about floor mats. I could vacuum up that whole floor board as much as I wanted, but no matter what, you could tell in the carpet where the mat always set, cause there would be a silhouette--an outline--of the mat, showing exactly where it went. But it also showed just how dirty the rest of the carpet was, because under the mat it looked the way it did the day I bought it. But surrounding it was all the dirty grime I was trying to hide.
I really just couldn’t win. But you better bit I tried every time, because I figured nothing turns a girl off more than a dirty truck cab and a disgusting apartment. And I did not want to turn her off in any way at all, ever, period.
And looking back, I can’t help but try to give myself some advise. It really wouldn’t be that hard or long. I wouldn’t have to write myself no novel or explain it that much in detail. I’d just have to whisper a few words in to my younger self’s ears and point him at MidwestAftermarket.com.
