Rigid Radiance Pods LED Cube Lights

When it comes to durability and some of the best lighting options on the market, one brand consistently rises to the top time and time again: Rigid Industries.

Not only do they make stellar lighting products, from light bars to cube lights, but they also stand behind their product with an amazing Limited Lifetime Warranty.

If you’re looking for a superior lighting option, Rigid has it in spades. We highly recommend them, especially when it comes to off-road lighting solutions. While their are other great products out there, Rigid has consistently preformed high in all the categories on the products they produce.

And having seen these new Radiance Pods at this years SEMA, we are super excited to start offering them.

Rigid started with their tried and true D-series style cube lights. They removed the blacked out circuit board and opted to go with the more rugged exposed option. Now the board is still inside the case which is IP68 rated, which we’ll get to shortly.

So by exposed, we mean that the lighted circuit board is open inside the box itself. This means that they could back light the circuit board in a variety of colors in order to provide accent lighting options in up to 5 different colors.

By not blacking out the circuit boards, the LEDs are able to project light forwards and backwards, lighting up your vehicle and the road ahead of it.

And if accent lighting isn’t your thing, then the Radiance comes in both amber and white options as well.

The 5 color options are: blue, white, red, green, and amber.

We do want to note that the Radiance Pods are NOT DOT (Department of Transportation) approved. These lights are meant for off-road use only. Since they function as spot lights, you won’t want to be using them on your actual street roads anyway, as they would likely blind on-coming traffic.

Furthermore, you should make sure you are aware of your local and state lighting laws concerning color before rocking these bad boys. Some states in particular have laws against both red and blue lights as these lights could be used to possibly impersonate police officers.

Personally, I dig the red, white, and blue color scheme because I’m patriotic like that, but I do try to comply with all local and state laws whenever possible.

With that being said, in most locations, as long as the light is left off when you are traveling on public roadways, you should be just fine.

Now back to the LED goodness.

These LED light pods provide a truly custom look and style that only Rigid can achieve. And the color options are excellent as well.

    IP Codes Explained

The IP rating system is a standard created by the International Electrotechnical Commission or IEC to state how well an electronic product is protected against dirt and dust and water.

The first number in a products IP rating code states how well that product is at preventing so called “harmful” dust from getting inside it and messing it up.

The best rating for this first number is 6, the worst 1.

A rating of 6, or IP 6#, means that this particular product was tested in a laboratory environment and found to have complete protection against contact with harmful dust for up to eight hours of direct contact with that material.

In other words, it is highly unlikely that any dust will get inside the Radiance Pods and mess them up unless the out casing or lenses become damaged.

This is very good for your Cube Lights because they will be exposed to dust and dirt every single day when you take your vehicle out driving.

The second number in the IP Code rating has to do with fresh water.

7 and 8 are the top ratings here. In other words, that’s IP Code #7 or #8.

A rating of 7 means that in laboratory conditions this product can be submerged up to a meter (roughly a yard) in fresh water for half an hour and still work properly.

And a rating of 8 means it can be submerged more like one and a half meters for half an hour and still work just fine. However, keep in mind that this is only for fresh water and it’s all in controlled lab conditions. We don’t recommend that you take your Rigid Radiance Pods and hook them up to a battery and take them under water by any means.

But considering that you will often be driving through rain or get mud and water splashed onto your light pods, it’s great to know that these Rigid Industries Radiance LED Light Cube Pods are top rated for both dust and water resistance.

    The Multi Switch Wiring Harness

There are many reasons we recommend Rigid. They make great products. Their warranty is stellar. And most of the time they include all the wiring and hookups needed for their light bars and pods.

With the Radiance, though, they wanted to go as bare bones as possible for those looking to DIY specific hookups in their own custom way. So when you order a pair of Radiance Cubes, you’re just getting the cubes with mounting brackets and a short wire with open leads and no connectors.

Again, this is for lighting experts and professional installers, really.

If you are neither of those and / or want a switch to turn on and off your new Radiance LED Cube lights, you’re gonna need the harness. And this probably applies to like 95% of customers, including myself.

Since these LED Cube lights are not street legal, you’re going to want a switch to turn them on and off. So you should get the harness too.

The Complete Multi-Switch Wiring Harness, part number 40300, will run you another $63 or so, but it makes installing and using the Radiance Pods super easy.

The harness has enough wire to run into the cab of your vehicle. The harness is equipped with two separate circuits and two separate backlit LED rocker switches (light in red and blue). One set is for the LED’s or spot light portion of the Radiance Pods. The other is for the back lighting. This means that both can function independently of each other. So if you want to show off the sweet back light colors of your ride while up on Main Street, you can do so without blinding on-coming traffic with your super bright, 900 lumen spot light LEDs.

If you’re unsure which options you need, just give us a call and one of our friendly parts experts will walk you through the buying process.

But for the record, we highly recommend you get the harness with the Radiance Pods. It just makes sense and these two products are designed to work together easily. Why make life hard on yourself when Rigid has made it all so simple.
