And let’s not forget about safety either. The more visible your tail lights are, the more likely someone behind you is going to be able to see what you’re doing. Whether you’re braking suddenly or just about to turn, your tail lights are vital to the safety of your vehicle and your passengers.
I had a buddy a few years back who got into a little fender bender. He claims that what happened was that some gal was tailgating him. And that’s probably true.
He was driving his Dodge Ram 1500 home down some country roads, and it was night time. Must have been early autumn, right before it starts to get cold around here. You know the time of year when the leaves all start to change into a sea of multicolored reds and oranges before they litter the ground like a quilted blanket of debris and the promise of future decay.
My friend had had a long day working, and he was pretty tired. We’ve all been there. And out of the darkness behind him comes the blazing headlights of some little car. There’s not a lot of room to pass on this particular county road, so my friend claims he sped up a little bit.
He was probably pounding an energy drink, or worse, a road sodie, when he swears something big and furry ran out in front of him.
Now this is exactly big foot country, but the way my friend tells the story you’d just about have to be a believer or think he’s a nut case, cause he swears he saw something straight outta some B-monster flick. In reality, I’m pretty sure he was just very much exhausted and his headlights might be due for an upgrade too. In other words, I’m pretty sure it was just a deer--maybe even a big buck. But hey, I wasn’t there.
So he slams on the brakes real hard and swerves, and lucky for the deer--or Big Foot--he manages to avoid the creature. However, the gal in the little car behind him didn’t react in time.
When the cops arrived on the scene, they gave her a ticket for following too closely. And luckily no one was seriously injured. Heck, my buddy’s truck was even in pretty solid shape. He needed a replacement rear bumper of course, and his driver’s side tail light was busted out, but other than that, he was golden. Wish I could say the same for the lady’s car. We’re pretty sure she about totalled that sucker out.
But when we inspected the truck the next day and were looking at new aftermarket bumpers and some tail lights for my buddy’s Ram, we noticed something pretty shocking that we just had to test out. We had my buddy pull his truck into my garage, and we pulled the shades on all the windows and such so it was pretty dark in there. We found that the difference between his stock tail lights being on and him slamming on the brakes was pretty darn minimal. Come to find out this wasn’t that rare of an issue for his particular year of truck either. Though it could just be that his tail lights could have gone for some deep cleaning.
Needless to say, we got him into some aftermarket LEDs like these Spyder Auto tail lights and now you can really tell the difference.
Hard to believe something so simple as tail lights could affect the safety of your vehicle, but they really do come in handy, especially when you’re doing a lot of night driving.
As to the possible Big Foot sighting, the jury is still out. But we can provide pretty great eye witness evidence that Spyder Auto’s LED Tail lights are quite a bit brighter than my bud’s old stock tail lights. And that you can take to the bank, my friend.
